A space age structure in the middle of Jura mountains – A look inside the headquarters of swiss watchmaker Audemars Piguet in Switzerland
Architecture is complex, classy and cohesive ? all at once. And a testament to this is A+ Awards? Firm of the Year ? BIG and its work on the headquarters of iconic Swiss watchmaker Audemars Piguet in Le Brassus, a small town situated in in the heart of La Vallée de Joux in Switzerland.
In its revamped avatar, the 25,800-square-foot pavilion features a museum, one whose design is touted as a being a ?poetic glass twirl?.
Conceived as a ?landmark to precision? embedded in the Alpine landscape, the spiraling space is home to lounges, galleries, and workshops, including part of the workshop where the company started.
The intertwined spirals of the design contain a succession of galleries and workshops, wherein ?the three workshops become adjacent, forming one continuous workspace surrounded by galleries.?
Overall, the structure features a clever use of glass, brass and concrete materials, with interiors boasting straight lines and elements of warm wood and stone surfaces.
Commenting on the design, Audemars said: ?The shape and the glass of the museum design mean you immediately discover the landscape, the changes in the light across the valley ? you can see where the watches come from,? while further adding, ?It really was love at first sight for BIG?s design. Bjarke got the spirit of what, who and where we are but in a global way. It?s a very distinct building but it?s discreet.?
Well, awe-inspiring architecture just got a whole new meaning!
