Ball Watch Company has released its latest robust tool watch: named the Fireman Night Train III, it marks the first time that Ball has used its trademark gas tubes for every single minute marker on the dial.
In three different sizes – 31mm, 40mm and 43mm – the stainless steel Fireman Night Train III is an altogether more practical-looking model than the existing Night Train DLC, particularly in the larger sizes.
It?s those larger sizes that also feature the signature micro gas tubes at each minute, as well as on the hands – a total of 61 tubes each. Each one comes with either bright green minute tubes with orange tubes at each hour, or yellow minute tubes with green ones at each hour. The smaller watch features blue minute tubes, with green ones at each hour. The tubes themselves are up to 100 times brighter than luminescent paint, with a 25-year lifespan. Each one is coated with a luminescent material on the inside that emits cold light, activated by the tritium?s electrons (it works in a similar way to a TV screen).
Inside the two larger models is the automatic Ball RR1103 movement, based on the ETA 2824, whilst the 31mm model runs on the RR1104, based on the ETA 2671. The RR1103 movements are surrounded by Ball?s patented Amortiser system, which uses an anti-magnetic ring as a buffer to absorb any shocks and bumps whilst on the wrist.
