Baselworld 2018: Introducing the Sinn 103 Sa B E Limited Edition (This is Blue Done Right)
Does the world really need another blue automatic chronograph from Sinn" Upon initial consideration you might be tempted to say that the Sinn 103 A Sa B released three years ago has that particular area pretty much covered. Going back a little further, the 203 Arktis shares a lot of the same design DNA, albeit with some extra Sinn technologies to qualify it for more extreme environments. On that basis it’s a little surprising to be so wowed by the newly unveiled Sinn 103 Sa B E.As you might expect, this new release shares a lot of similarities (and not just the reference) with the existing Sinn 103 Sa B: both have the same 41mm polished stainless steel case, a sapphire crystal on front and back, and both make use of the Valjoux 7750 automatic chronograph caliber. The differences are what set the 103 Sa B E apart, and in this case the small deviations add up to give it a memorable result.
The dial is a rich sunburst blue with matching sub-dials, and this strong color is amplified by the anodized aluminum bezel. To offset this sea of blue, Sinn have opted for ivory colored Super-LumiNova on the syringe hands, hour indices, and the triangle marker on the bezel. The aged lume look isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, so I can see that potentially being the “I would buy it now if it wasn’t for . . .” element, but I think it gives the watch a welcome warmth and softness.
