Bulova is an iconic brand?one with a storied history chock full of highly collectible timekeepers. In recent years, Bulova has really embraced that history through the brand?s Archives Series, which looks to the company?s extensive back catalog for watches to reissue. 2015 saw the first of such revivals with the Lunar Pilot Chronograph, and at Baselworld 2017 Bulova unveiled the ?Stars and Stripes? Chronograph C (the company also released the second iteration of the Lunar Pilot Chronograph, which we?ll be taking a closer look at today).
Bulova teamed up with online vintage dealer Analog/Shift to kick off a global competition to choose their next revival. There were three watches in the running: a 1972 Oceanographer ?Devil Diver? (nicknamed as such due to the 666-ft water resistance rating on the dial), a 1970 Bull-Head Chronograph, and a 1970 Chronograph A ?Surf-Board.? Collectors from all over cast their votes, and today we have a winner?the ?Devil Diver? comes out on top. Details are a little lacking right now as the watch will be formally unveiled at Baselworld next year, but what we do know is that there will be two iterations of the watch. The first will be a general release model, and the second will be a limited edition (of course, limited to 666 pieces) with a special orange dial. 30 of those will feature personalized case backs with the A/S logo and will come with an extra strap.
