Beat it: Schofield’s Beater B2 in bronze
The latest rugged design from Schofield comes in two styles of bronze case and adds a “Sign-O-Life” running seconds indicator

Design-led British indie brand Schofield – whose motto is “Made in Sussex and England” – has followed up its first foray into the world of everyday rugged watches, the Beater, with the Beater B2.
The new watch uses the same case shape as all Schofield watches to date, a chunky design that takes cues from the lighthouses of the south coast. This one is British-made (unlike the German-engineered precision of the Daymark) and comes in one metal, two flavours.
The pre-treated and raw Beater B2 cases
You can have it in raw bronze, ready to take on a patina of its own, or force-patinated by Schofield. That involves a treatment with acid and dye of Schofield founder Giles Ellis’ own devising, followed by rough burnishing to reveal the brighter bronze around the case edges and joins. The raw cases are kept in airtight bags for as long as possible to reduce patina before being sold; the latter are likely to age a bit more steadily.
Both versions are otherwise identical: they share blue dial, here lacquered rather than enamelled (as it was on the Beater B1) but still designed to show some of the bare brass at its edge and around the central pinion for the hands.
