After introducing the Navitimer 8 collection earlier this year as its first timepieces post the brand?s change of leadership and fresh product design direction, watchmaker Breitling has now revealed the first of the watches that will be hitting the display stands at the 2018 Baselworld. The Breitling Navitimer 1 Automatic 38 is a watch meant for both men and women, carrying a new interpretation of what is arguably Breitling’s best-known design, the Navitimer. As the name implies, the timepiece has a 38mm x 10mm case; but what?s surprising is that it?s a three-hander watch without Breitling?s most identifiable complication ? the chronograph.

With the chronograph function gone, the dial has a much cleaner look; although, most elements from the original design have been retained including the familiar slide rule bezel. Originally, the production description on the brand?s website mentioned the Navitimer 1 Automatic 38 as a ladies? watch; however, interestingly, the page has since been updated to mention that it?s a elegant and sophisticated timepiece intended for men and women. It isn?t a big surprise though as smaller sized men?s watches are becoming more popular. A COSC-certified movement, the caliber 17, which is based on Sellita SW-300, powers the Navitimer 1 Automatic 38. The movement offers a 40h power reserve.
