Cartier has debuted three super-complicated timepieces as a part of its Fine Watchmaking collection ? a line that was introduced in 2008 to come up with the brand?s most sophisticated and complicated watches. The three new offerings were revealed on Cartier’s Watchmaking Encounters digital platform, which was launched as part of Watches & Wonders 2020. All three pieces are skeletonized models that push the boundaries of watchmaking. First of them is the Rotonde de Cartier Mysterious Hour Skeleton that features a comparatively small case in 18k pink gold measuring 42mm in diameter. The watch uses the familiar Cartier open dial configuration in which the negative spaces in the numerals are opened up for skeletonization. Powering the timepiece is the in-house hand-wound 9983 MC that offers a power reserve of 48 hours.
Next up is the Rotonde de Cartier Grand Complication Skeleton Watch. The intricate timepiece has an 18k pink gold case the measures 45mm and the inner workings of the watch can only be seen from the front. It is powered by in-house 9406 MC movement and features complications such as a minute repeater, perpetual calendar, and flying tourbillon. The last timepiece of the trio is the Rotonde de Cartier Minute Repeater Mysterious Double Tourbillon ? a watch that borrows from Cartier?s famous Mystery Clock and features elements that seem to float in space.
