Casio G-Shock and Transformers Celebrate 35 Years by Rolling Out the Coolest JDM Collaboration
Japan gets the coolest things. It?s a commonly heard refrain here at Worn & Wound HQ, often uttered after we come across some drool-worthy JDM Seiko, but this time around we?ve got our eyes on a very special Casio G-Shock. In 2019, the Transformers franchise and Casio G-Shock are celebrating their 35th anniversaries, so Casio teamed up with Japanese toymaker, Takara Tomy, to create a limited edition Optimus Prime figurine that comes with a G-Shock watch in its chest. Yes, you read that right.

You’ll never look at your boring watch box the same way again.
The Optimus Prime figurine can be transformed into two modes: Pedestal (left) and Robot (right). Both allow the watch to be displayed front and center, but c?mon, Robot mode is clearly the way to go. I’d gladly put that up in my living room. The actual watch, Ref. DW-6900, is a G-Shock mainstay, and it’s rendered here in red, blue, and gray to match the iconic coloring of the Autobot leader. The Autobot insignia is also visible on the LCD dial.
Now here?s the bad part for those of us stateside. This is a Japan-only limited release. Some of these units will be auctioned off for ¥29,000 (~$260) via a lottery online at Takara Tomy later this month, and the official release is slated for December 8th.
