Casio is known for its high-tech horological gadgetry and the long-running, hyper-durable G-Shock line. However, what you might not realize is that, like many Swiss watch manufactures that focus solely on mechanical watchmaking, the accessible Japanese brand also has ties to the realm of motorsports.

The latest watch released by Casio is the result of a partnership with the Scuderia Toro Rosso Formula 1 team, which Casio has had a professional relationship with since 2016. Dubbed the Edifice EQS800, the watch is directly inspired by the design and materials of Formula 1 vehicles. The dial is constructed entirely from carbon fiber and uses an enhanced solar charging panel located underneath the inset dials to maintain a power reserve of five months at full charge. The watch is even supposed to charge in low or fluorescent light meaning that if you’re like me and avoiding going outside during the bitter winter months, your watch will continue to run without issue. The Edifice EQS800 is also water resistant up to 100 meters and protected with a scratch resistant mineral crystal. Like many Casio wristwatches, the extra abilities are plentiful; the watch has a stopwatch, a date display, and a battery level indicator.
