Farer, the British watch brand known for its bright, affordable designs, is dipping its toe into the waters of manually-wound watches with its latest collection

After releasing its first collection of automatic three-handers in November 2016, Farer released a GMT in May 2017, quickly followed by a diving watch last September. Now we have the first manual winding watches from the company, with all the Farer hallmarks: a snappy retro design, manufactured by Swiss company Roventa-Henex, and at a competitive price point.
There are three watches in the new collection, each one named after a British explorer, and in a 37mm, stainless steel cushion case.

First we have the Hudson, named for English navigator Henry Hudson who explored what is now Canada and the northeastern United States – ever heard of the Hudson River or Hudson Bay" Yep, that?s him. The watch features a shimmering navy blue sunray dial, with luminescent, mint-coloured, baton hour markers. A patterned track with red markers runs around the dial, and the 6 o?clock sub-dial has orange markers with a deep yellow hand.

The Lansdell is named for Henry Lansdell, a nineteenth century priest who journeyed through Europe and Africa to Asia in search of the Dalai Lama. It has a more textured dial than the others, featuring a grooved racing green ring and a silver guilloché central dial. The polished case is a slim 8.3mm thick, with a domed crystal, and wears slightly large on the wrist.
