Freshly squeezed: Christopher Ward launches the C60 Trident 316L
There?s no missing the newest C60 Trident dive watch from Christopher Ward
Earlier this month, Christopher Ward released a bold addition to the Trident family in the form of a new dive watch: the C60 Trident 316L, a vibrant orange limited edition.
The 43mm case is made with 316L steel, a marine grade steel with a high manganese content that is both strong and anti-corrosive. The dial is a punchy shade of tangerine, reminiscent of the brightly-coloured, tactile dive watches of the 1990s.
Of course, there?s a whole sub-section (pun intended) of dive watch fans who covet orange dials. Doxa?s Sub watches, the first designed for recreational scuba diving, were made with orange dials because the colour performed best in visibility tests. Seiko?s Orange Monster has a similar aesthetic, along with some serious lume. Perhaps this is the beginning of a new trend: Bulgari has just launched a trio of fun Diagono Scuba watches in orange, yellow and white, each on colour-matched rubber straps.
It is, perhaps, a slightly surprising look from Christopher Ward; after all, this time last year the company completely re-branded. The first watches to showcase the new, sleekly minimalist direction were two Trident models, the C65 Vintage and the C65 Classic Mk II.
In fairness, those were all-purpose, rather than dive, watches. The C60 Trident 316L is a piece of dive kit, with a chunky, no-nonsense bezel and bright Super-Luminova on the indices and hands. Spot the trademark Trident counter-b...
