G-Shock Goes Transparent with Six New Models
File this one away under: not what I was expecting. In writing about the recently released GMWB5000RD-4, I commented on G-Shock leaning heavily into upmarket, full-metal models. It seemed to me at the time that the really exciting stuff that G-Shock has been putting out from a design perspective is nearly all of the metallic variety. The recent announcement of a series of new transparent G-Shocks is a fun change of pace. These new watches in white and gray transparent resin cases span quite a bit of G-Shock ground, with several model families represented in a style that?s charming, modern, and in terms of pure style might be the polar opposite of the recent full-metal G-Shocks.Â
What we actually have here are two lines of transparent watches. The Transparent White series features crisp white takes on the DW5600, GA700, and GA2100, and the Transparent Gray takes the GA2000, GA900, and GA110 and gives them dark transparent accents. Regardless of color, each watch is using semi transparent plastic parts on the bezel and strap, creating what is in effect a transparent bubble around the case. This isn?t a crystal clear glass-like transparency that you?d see on an ultra high end sapphire cased watch, but a cloudier and sportier look that seems to suit G-Shock rather well.Â
