Swiss luxury watchmaker Girard-Perregaux has revealed a new limited-edition timepiece called the Quasar Light. The latest offering is based on the famous Quasar watch that debuted last year at the Watches & Wonders watch trade show in Miami. The limited-edition gets the same sapphire crystal case and movement of the Quasar, but the Quasar Light?s movement bridges in sapphire crystal as well. What that means is the skeletonized watch features an almost full-sapphire construction, giving it a unique aesthetic appeal. According to the watchmaker, the manufacturing and finishing of the case and new see-through bridges ?required over 200 hours of work and hundreds of operations with techniques perfected over two centuries.?

The sapphire case of the watch measures 46 mm x 15.25 mm. The timepiece equipped with a tourbillon composed of 79 different parts and makes a full rotation every 60 seconds for extreme accuracy. Girard-Perregaux?s caliber GP09400-1128 movement powers the watch; The self-winding mechanism beats at 3Hz, has 27 jewels, and offers 60-hours of power reserve. The rotor is also hidden underneath the mainspring barrel at the 12 o?clock position to give the timepiece an even more cleaner look. Only 18 examples of the watch will be available for sale with each of them carrying a price tag of $294,000 USD; that?s almost a hundred thousand dollars more than the regular Quasar model.
