Back in January, watchmaker Girard-Perregaux revealed a concept watch at the 2019 SIHH that showcased a revolutionary material called Carbon Glass. The luxury watch manufacturer has finally introduced a production version of the timepiece in the form of the new Laureato Absolute Rock, which is the first model to feature Carbon Glass. Unlike any other manufacturing process of other types of carbon, this revolutionary new material guarantees full water resistance. The patented manufacturing process of Carbon Glass involves an extreme compression of the materials during an injection procedure at high temperature. This results in a smooth and uniform texture on all its surfaces, unlike other types of carbon. The extreme compression of materials also gives it high density, which results in very high resistance. According to the watchmaker, the material is 100 times more resistant than steel.
The 44 mm Carbon Glass case of the watch has blue fibers threaded throughout the material. The pattern of the blue fibers in each watch is unique, which makes every one of the 100 of the Laureato Absolute Rock truly unique. The dial of the watch is composed of two superimposed, hollowed plates ? the top one comes with a sleek black matte finish. The Absolute Rock is powered by the manufacturer?s GP03300-1058 automatic movement, which has a 46-hour power reserve and an impressive 419 components.
