Glashütte Original Returns to the Deep with New SeaQ in Reed Green
Germany’s Glashütte Original has found an avid audience with vintage-styled models like the Sixties and Seventies, which hearken back to the ?Spezimatic? watches produced during the Cold War era of Saxon watchmaking. (You can read my review of one of the most recent Sixties models here.) In 2019, the company launched the ?Spezialist? collection, which takes inspiration from the sportiest timepieces of that period. Kicking off the new family was the SeaQ dive watch series, which this year expands with a new model in an outdoorsy “Reed Green” colorway.
The SeaQ, and its sibling the SeaQ Panorama Date, takes its inspiration from the Spezimatic Type RP TS 200, a watch developed for sports divers and released in 1969. Its polished and satin-brushed stainless-steel case measures 39.5 mm in diameter and 12.15 mm thick. The case’s 200-meter water resistance and its unidirectional rotating bezel, with a rich green, scratch-resistant ceramic inlay matching the dial, are among the factors that ensure the SeaQ meets the (German) DIN 8306 and (international) ISO 6425 standards for diving watches. The green lacquer dial is highlighted with Super-LumiNova on its hands and applied hour indices and numerals.
Behind a solid engraved caseback ticks Glashütte Original’s in-house, automatic Caliber 39-11, which holds a 40-hour power reserve, beats at a 28,800-vph frequency, and includes a stop-seconds function as well as a date display at 3 o?clock....
