Hands-On: Czapek Antarctique P.04 ?Lanikai? Watch For Collective Horology
Just released by Czapek & Cie in collaboration with Collective Horology is the new Antarctique P.04 ?Lanikai? and it may just be the most beautiful version of this integrated bracelet sport watch yet. Collective Horology is the California-based operation run by Asher Raskin and Gabe Reilly who have done some excellent collaborations in the past with the likes of Moser, Zenith, IWC, J.N. Shapiro, and most recently Armin Strom. Like any truly great collaboration, the Czapek & Cie. Antarctique P.04 ?Lanikai? succeeds because it is so beautifully done regardless of co-branding.Â
Three years in the making, the Antarctique P.04 ?Lanikai? is defined by that immediately eye-catching dial. Inspired by the water and shores of Hawaii?s Lanikai Beach, the enamel dial is finished in aquamarine blue. It?s not just the color that makes it so special but also how the dial is first done in undulating concave waves that create the beautiful horizontal wave effect. The textures on the wave are then stamped onto the dial from a hand-engraved mold after which the enameling is done. Doing enameling on uneven surfaces is complicated but the end result is simply gorgeous. The lack of a date window keeps the dial nice and clean while the sand colored seconds hand is a very nice, on-theme touch.
For this project, Czapek partnered with none other than the master enamel dial makers Donzé Cadrans (acquired by Ulysse Nardin in 2012, they still supply grand feu enamel dials for the likes of...
