Heuer Triple Calendar Chronograph
Watches of Knightsbridge, London, 15 March 2014
Sold for £2,432
The 2009 sale of Arnaud Haslinger?s remarkable collection of Heuer chronographs boosted prices for the best post-1960 models such as the Carrera, Monaco, Silverstone and so on. Yet many Heuer watches produced before Jack Heuer made the company synonymous with motor sport remain surprisingly affordable.
This beautifully patinated, non-restored triple calendar chrono from the 1950s serves as a good example. The combination of a two-tone silver dial, gilt Arabic numerals and a blue date track must have been magnificent when the watch was first sold. But now the piece can be equally well appreciated for its mellow appearance and classic design. The lovely, hand-wound ?Ed. Heuer? movement looks to be in good condition, and even the relatively modest 37mm case seems in keeping with the modern trend among brands for downsizing. Simon de Burton
