In the (Swiss) Army Now: Victorinox Launches New FieldForce Collection
Victorinox, inventor of the iconic Swiss Army knife and maker of military-themed timepieces since 1989, is going back to basics in its wristwatch portfolio ? after going upmarket with such pieces as 2015’s INOX and Dive Master 500 ? with the launch of the new FieldForce collection.
The Victorinox FieldForce collection will comprise three-hand day-date models and chronographs.
FieldForce watches ? thus far available in three-hand, day-date models as well as a three-register chronograph version ? have 42-mm 316L stainless steel cases with aluminum bezels and scratch-resistant, triple-coated anti-reflective sapphire crystals. The dials are stamped in a monobloc style and feature the large, luminous Arabic numerals common to classical military field watches along with that familiar red-and-white Victorinox Swiss Army cross-and-shield logo at the 12 o’clock position. Inside the case, beneath a screwed down steel caseback, is a Swiss-made quartz movement from Ronda. The case is water-resistant to 100 meters and comes mounted on either a genuine leather strap or a stainless steel link bracelet. The stamped monobloc dials have large luminous numerals.
The simpler model has a day-date window at 3 o’clock and is powered by the Ronda 517 movement. The chronograph has a fixed tachymeter-scale bezel, 12-hour and 30-minute chronograph counters and a small seconds subdial, and a date window at 6 o’clock. Inside is the Ronda 5030D quartz caliber.
