Introducing the Bulgari Octo Retro Maserati GranSport and GranLusso
Officially partners since 2012, Bulgari and Maserati have collaborated on some bold (some might say brash!) watches over the years (2012, 2014). And now the brands are out with their latest timepieces, and they have gone in yet another bold direction on the design front. Clearly drawing on the Maserati analog dashboard gauges for inspiration, the new Bulgari Octo Retro Maserati “GranSport” and “GranLusso” (two distinct models) will will be available only in Bulgari boutiques and further only available to Maserati owners (proof of ownership required"!).
The GranSport is overall the sportier looking watch of the two due to its use of traditional black and blue colors used by the Italian car-maker and a 41.5mm black DLC-coated steel case. A black dial with silver indexes and hands and several blue accents complete the look.
The second version exudes a bit more luxury than sport: the GranLusso has an a 41.5mm pink gold case, and dark grey dial with gold accents.
Mechanically and function-wise, the watches are the same. The dial of the Octo Retro only displays the minutes and the hours, though in a rather original way. That is, a retrograde minute hand (each of the large digits represents 10 minutes) and a jumping hour display which is situated in the framed circular aperture at 3 o’clock position. The Maserati logo also features prominently under the hour aperture.
