Introducing the Manchester Watch Works P. marcidus Diver (AKA the “Blobfish”)

Manchester Watch Works (or MWW) is a relatively young and popular brand with a number of successful Kickstarter-launched projects under its belt. Its latest project?the P. Marcidus dive watch?is a limited edition release with a quite an unusual backstory in that a portion of all proceeds will be donated to help raise awareness to its namesake, the P. marcidus, or as it’s better known, the blobfish. The MMW “Blobfish” (naturally, this is now the name preferred by those who purchased the piece) is a limited release of just 99 available pieces?this isn?t a pre-order?with 6.5% of each sale going towards a cause championed by the son of MWW founder, Douglas Kim.If you?ve ever seen a blobfish, you?ll be relieved to learn that the watch that bears its name is much better looking. In fact, the overall aesthetic seems to be a mixture of Seiko references, with the dial pulling from the long-discontinued Seiko SUS series and the case bearing a clear resemblance to the 62mas (or its modern reissues). The bezel features a stainless steel insert and has 120-click unidirectional turn. The 12 o’clock pip is also coated in BGW9.
The dial is blue and features a sunburst finish. The hours are marked with thick rectangles, stick markers and numerals, a combination that does crowd the dial a bit but it?s by no means hard to read. There is a date window at six o’clock, replacing the ?6.? The dial also features the brand?s logom...
