Introducing the Oris Aquis Small Second Date
A few weeks back, we wrote about the Oris Aquis Staghorn Restoration, a limited edition diver Oris put out to commemorate its partnership with the Coral Restoration Foundation. Building on the momentum of that release, Oris has just announced its latest addition to the Aquis line?the Aquis Small Second Date.
The sub-seconds dial at nine places the hour and minute hands center stage, the latter being the most important hand for timing dives.
The Small Second Date continues the revamp of the Aquis collection, which saw a small, but impactful redesign introduced earlier this year. That redesign features a slimmer and more refined case, a new dial and hands, and a thinner bracelet. A small-second complication is not new to the Aquis line, but it?s the first iteration of the feature with the new facelift. The stainless steel case measures 45.5mm in diameter and is water-resistant to 50 bar/500 meters. A screw-down crown at three is flanked by a set of robust guards, and the uni-directional bezel features a ceramic inlay with a 60-minute timer.
Powering the watch is Oris? caliber 743, which is essentially a rebadged Selitta SW 220-1 with Oris? iconic red rotor.
The redesign is not only surface level. Oris has engineered the new case to have a small gap between the mid-case and bezel, allowing for easier grip of the bezel underwater, ultimately making it a more functional tool.
