Introducing The Seiko Presage Sharp Edges Series
Seiko has introduced 4 new watches within the formal end of their Presage collection dubbed the Sharp Edges series. These watches lean toward Grand Seiko levels of finishing and dial architecture while remaining relatively accessible in the process. Each of the new watches offer a unique dial color and texture that bring new meaning to the term heritage inspired. Not only do these watches honor Japanese history, they look pretty damn good in the process.Â
These 4 references offer good entry points for a variety of wardrobe styles, with 3 steel options that could easily be dressed up or down, and a 4th in rose gold finish for special occasions. These watches are tricky to nail down, but however you’d choose to rock them, we think they offer a compelling value.
The case and dial design of the Sharp Edge series are subtle from a distance, and move toward the aggressive at closer inspection. Each of the 4 dial colors (green, white, brown, and blue) feature a geometric pattern based on the traditional hemp leaf motif of the Heian Period of late classical Japanese history (794-1185 AD), and symbolize growth and prosperity. The distinctive pattern will shift in contrast depending on the lighting and angle of viewing. Likewise the hands and hour markers are deep and angular, bringing an overall level drama not unlike what we see from Grand Seiko.
