Introducing the Spire Collection from Fin, Now on Kickstarter
Regardless of the product, there are pretty much two categories of Kickstarter campaign: the low frills, nothing-but-the-details sort; and the slick, well-produced campaign that communicates the details with a bit of flair. Fin Watches out of Toronto falls into the latter group. Their Kickstarter introduction video is quirky and slick, and the campaign text follows a similar pattern. All that to say, Fin does a good job of capturing your attention while they introduce their first watch, the Spire. At first glance, the Spire appears to be a relatively standard GMT, but it?s been reimagined as a 24-hour countdown timer.  A red hand extends all the way to the outer track where the hours are marked counting down from 24, rather than up. The 24-hour countdown hand is intended to show the hours left in the day you have to “accomplish the things important to you.” It?s a gimmick, and it?s one that the folks behind the brand admit is silly, but it doesn?t stop you from using the GMT function in a traditional way (it can be set independently to track a second time zone). The one downside is that you can?t reasonably use the 24-hour track as a point of reference, which does impact immediate legibility. Save
