Last week, we were introduced to Zodiac?s latest ad campaign featuring their brand ambassador, Andy Mann, a photographer (you?ve probably seen some of his work on the pages of National Geographic), filmmaker, conservationist, adventurer, and all-around cool guy. Gracing his wrist that night?and on numerous recent expeditions?was the newly minted Zodiac Super Sea Wolf 68, a limited edition of just 182 units celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Super Sea Wolf line.
A little bit about the Sea Wolf. First launched in 1953, the Sea Wolf was really one of the first watches built for diving, sitting alongside icons such as Rolex?s Submariner and Blancpain?s Fifty Fathoms. One interesting tidbit about the Sea Wolf is that it saw heavy use by servicemen during the Vietnam War, as the watch was readily available in PX stores and was at the time, relatively speaking, affordable. The Super Sea Wolf, which is being celebrated here, debuted in ?68.Measuring 44 millimeters across, 50 millimeters long (shrouded lugs here), and roughly 16 millimeters thick, you?d think the watch is a beast on the wrist. Surprisingly, or perhaps not so considering the case shape, the watch is extremely wearable, boasting some visual heft without looking ridiculously oversized. The case is rated to 100 atm?that?s a whopping 1,000 meters of water resistance. You won?t need it, but it?s fun knowing that the watch on your wrist is so overbuilt.
