Jaeger-Lecoultre celebrated Ferdinand Hodler with three fabulous Reverso Tribute Enamel watches
Jaeger-Lecoultre have transformed their Reverso watch into a tiny canvas that pays tribute to Swiss painter Ferdinand Hodler. The reverse watch is known for its ability to flip over so that the normally concealed caseback can take the place of the watch face and these iterations feature three of the fantastic landscapes that Hodler was known and revered for. This year marks the 100th anniversary of his death and the artist shows of signs of being forgotten.
The watch case is a specially crafted white gold piece that reflects an Art Deco style. The dial features guillochage work designed to create a beautiful woven effect. The three tribute watches each have different dial colors that echo some of the hues in the paintings on the back. The dials are delicately enameled.
These watches cannot be discussed without a mention of the fabulous artwork on the back. The paintings chosen for these three tribute watches are Lake Thun With Symmetric Reflections Before Sunrise (1904), Lake Thun, Symmetric Reflection (1909), and Lake Geneva With Mont Blanc In The Morning Light (1918). Each painted watch was first hand engraved with the delicate lines that comprise the paintings and then shaded in with enamel colors. To recreate Hodler?s fantastic color gradations on such a small surface could not have been an easy task, but it was flawlessly completed by Jaeger-Lecoultre?s craftsmen.
