For German luxury watch brand A. Lange & Söhne, the date 7th December is steeped in history. Ferdinand Adolph Lange laid the foundation stone for Saxon fine watchmaking 175 years ago, and his great-grandson Walter Lange resurrected the brand 30 years ago on the same day. To celebrate the two anniversaries, A. Lange & Söhne has introduced three timepieces: a new limited-edition Saxonia Thin and a Saxonia Outsize Date with silver dial in pink and white gold versions. Starting with the new Saxonia Thin, the new limited edition takes the brand?s most basic watch to a new level. Instead of the regular version?s restrained dial finish, the limited-edition gets a dial made of solid silver coated with something called “black gold flux.” The finish is achieved by using glass filled with tiny fragments of copper that sparkle. The process was discovered in Venice back in the 17th century. The 40mm white-gold case houses the caliber L093.1. The in-house time-only movement is the thinnest A. Lange & Söhne movement to date and offers a power reserve of three days. Limited to 50 pieces, the limited-edition Saxonia Thin is priced at $25,800.
