Watchmaker MB&F has announced a new version of the HM7 Aquapod timepiece that features a case made out of platinum along with a sapphire bezel in striking red. The first HM7 Aquapod watch was showcased at the SIHH 2017 and the latest edition is the fourth in the collection which joins the titanium with blue accents (33 pieces), red gold with black accents (66 pieces) and titanium with bright green accents (50 pieces). The platinum HM7 Aquapod is the most limited model thus far with only 25 examples planned to be made. One of the biggest reasons behind could be that the case is from platinum 950, which would make the timepiece considerably heavier, especially compared to the Titanium variant. To compensate for the weight gain, MB&F tweaked parts of the movement inside, which includes a sapphire tourbillion bridge instead of metal and the use of titanium for the 3D numerals on the dial.
The aquatic-themed HM7 Aquapod watch is inspired by by the jellyfish and there?s a more important reason than aesthetics for going with the bright shade of red for the newest variant. As it turns out, the deeper you go in the ocean, the less color you see and red is the first of the colors to disappear; a reason why many creatures found in the deepest parts of the oceans are red in color.
