Omega Launches New Aqua Terra Golf Watches at the 2017 PGA Championship
The 99th PGA Championship, professional golf’s final major tournament of the year, wrapped up on August 13 at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, NC. As it has since 2011, Swiss luxury watch brand Omega served as Official Timekeeper ? and this year, also used the event to launch two new models in its Seamaster Aqua Terra Golf series, each devoted to one of Omega’s professional golf “ambassadors,” Sergio Garcia and Rory McIlRoy.
The new Aqua Terra Golf watches differ from their predecessors in the collection in several respects. Most obvious is the use of new, striped NATO straps where previous models have used a steel link bracelet or a calfskin leather strap ? green and black for the Sergio Garcia model, a likely reference to the coveted green jacket that the Spaniard won at the 2017 Masters; and orange and black for the Rory McIlroy watch. (Omega debuted this style of five-striped NATO strap, made of polyamide, on the Seamaster 300 model worn by Daniel Craig as James Bond in the 2015 film Spectre.) The other notable aesthetic difference is the more pronounced, horizontal “teakwood” motif on the dials, which are available in either sunbrushed black (on the Garcia watch, with green seconds hand and green numerals at 15, 30, 45, and 60 on the minute track) or silvery white (on the McIlroy model, with orange seconds hand...
