Porsche Design Revs Up With Chronograph 1 ? All Black Numbered Edition
As a kick-off to the company’s 50th anniversary, Porsche Design presented the Chronograph 1 – 1972 Limited Edition at the beginning of the year. Already sold out, this automatic timepiece, limited to 500 pieces, was intended as a tribute to the brand’s first timepiece, the Chronograph I. When unveiled half a century ago, this debutante established a trend that would resonate in the world of watches: an entirely black case. In addition, the Chronograph I adopted the design of the dashboard displays in Porsche sports cars, transferring its aesthetics to the wrist.
Good news: the new Chronograph 1 ? All Black Numbered Edition will be part of the permanent collection, however, with an annual limitation to 1,000 pieces. It is announced to hit the stores in November this year.
In true Porsche Design fashion, the Chronograph 1 ? All Black Numbered Edition is reminiscent of the pure design of the completely black timepiece from 1972, but comes with subtle yet bold updates. The logo displayed on the matte black dial is the brand’s current one, the tachymeter and day/date display use also today’s Porsche font, and, last but not least, the counters are slightly recessed.
Power is provided by Porsche Design?s genuine automatic caliber, Werk 01-140, which bears a C.O.S.C. certificate. The newly designed Porsche Design rotor can be admired through the sapphire crystal caseback, which reveals intriguing decorations echoing the world...
