Scenes from the Opening of Breguet’s New Fifth Avenue Boutique
On November 30, a group of select watch media and watch collectors gathered to toast the opening of Breguet’s new flagship New York boutique, which moved from its previous location on 5th Avenue to a spot in the ritzy St. Regis Hotel. Breguet gave the new 240-square meter space a craftsmanship and heritage theme, with touches of luxurious ambiance such as guilloché imagery on the display cases’ frosted glass. For the opening festivities, which featured Champagne and passed hors d’oeuvres, a watchmaker demonstrated the art of guilloché ? a Breguet specialty ? for curious guests, and two very special Breguet timepieces were in the house: one, a replica of Winston Churchill’s famed “turnip” watch, created by Breguet to be used in the new film, The Darkest Hour; the other, an 1817 pocketwatch that was one of 35 original tourbillon watches created by brand founder Abraham-Louis Breguet during his lifetime.
