Showing at WatchTime New York 2019: Zenith El Primero A384 Revival
America?s largest luxury watch event, WatchTime New York, is returning for its fifth consecutive year at Midtown Manhattan?s Gotham Hall on October 25-26. This year?s event is shaping up to be the biggest yet, with 37 participating watch brands displaying their latest and greatest timepieces. Among these brands is Zenith, which is showcasing the final and perhaps most eagerly anticipated model in its 2019 collection celebrating the 50th anniversary of the brand’s groundbreaking El Primero chronograph movement: the Zenith El Primero A384 Revival, a modern, vintage-look reproduction of the first wristwatch to house the El Primero.
Zenith El Primero A384 Revival
To produce the most historically accurate timepiece possible, the watchmakers behind the Zenith El Primero A384 used a ?reverse engineering? approach, digitizing each component of the 1969 original ? yes, this reference, with the black-and-white ?panda? subdial design, preceded even the A386 model re-created for this year’s 50th Anniversary box set, with its more familiar blue-silver-gray subdials ? to reproduce all elements as precisely as possible. The most major of these elements include the 37-mm diameter, faceted, stainless steel case, the black-and-white lacquered dial with its surrounding tachymeter scale, and the mushroom-style chronograph pushers at 2 o?clock and 4 o?clock. The “reverse engineered” design approach ensured a historically accurate version of the A384.
