TAG Heuer Launches the Next Generation of Turbocharged Carrera Chronographs (With Live Photos)
Thus far in 2020, Swiss watchmaker TAG Heuer has commemorated its 160th anniversary with the launch of two limited-edition models, the Carrera Silver Limited Edition and the Montreal Limited Edition. This week, crowning its yearlong celebration, the brand reveals four new models that will join its “evergreen” collection. The TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre Heuer 02 takes TAG Heuer’s iconic 1963 racing chronograph, the Carrera, and “reimagines” it with subtle design updates and an expanded 80-hour power reserve.
According to TAG Heuer, the new models, launching over two collections in two distinctive styles (the second set to debut in September), will “take [this] collection back to its roots.” Said roots go back to the Carrera’s creator, then-CEO Jack Heuer, and his well-documented love of motorsport design that informed the original, now classic model. The iconic watch was Jack Heuer’s “proudest creation,” according to the brand, designed to be “perfect for drivers who need to see the time at a glance during races.”
The stainless steel cases for each new edition boast alternating brushed and polished finishes, with shorter lugs than their predecessors, contributing to a sleeker appearance; they measure 44 mm in diameter (one mm larger than their predecessors with the Heuer 02 movement, i.e., Ref.
