The Time of the Seasons: Grand Seiko Unveils Four New U.S. Exclusive Editions
The annual CoutureTime watch exhibition kicked off yesterday at the Wynn and Encore in Las Vegas, and a handful of watch brands have taken the opportunity to introduce new timepieces to the U.S. that were not on display at the two major Swiss watch fairs, SIHH in January and Baselworld in March. One of these brands is Japan’s Grand Seiko, which introduced a quartet of U.S.-exclusive models for the first time, each representing in its distinctive design one of the four seasons. Each of the four new models features the classic 62 GS case, used on the first self-winding Grand Seiko model, measuring 40 mm in diameter and water-resistant to 100 meters. The Spring and Winter models use brushed titanium for their cases and bracelets, while the Summer and Fall models use stainless steel with Seiko’s Zaratsu polished finish. Spring and Winter are equipped with 9R65 Spring Drive movements, while Summer and Fall contain Seiko’s automatic Hi-Beat 9S85 caliber; all are visible behind clear casebacks emblazoned with the Grand Seiko lion emblem in gold metallization. Each watch’s face symbolizes its season. The Spring has a pale pink hue, reminiscent of blossoming flowers, with a subtle texture. The dial on the Winter watch features the same texture with a titanium gray color that echoes the case’s finish and calla to mind snow...
