Timex and Todd Snyder Team Up for Another Sub-$200 Vintage-Look Watch

Today, we’re showcasing another joint collaboration way down at the other end of the price spectrum, namely the latest vintage-look piece to emerge from mass-market Timex’s partnership with menswear designer Todd Snyder. The watch is a contemporary reissue of a late-1960s racing-inspired model that Snyder, a classic car enthusiast, discovered while combing through Timex’s 160-plus-year archive. It is notable for the vintage-style curlicue tachymeter scale in the center of the dial, a feature designed to gauge the speed of a moving object, like a racecar on a track, over a predetermined distance. At 40 mm in diameter, the stainless steel case is designed for modern tastes and water-resistant to 30 meters. Over the dial is a domed acrylic crystal, which brings the watch’s overall thickness to 12 mm.
The Beekman’s quartz movement is not equipped with a chronograph function, so the method of operating the tachymeter is decidedly old-school. At the start of a racing lap, pull the crown out while the seconds hand is at 12 o’clock, thus stopping the seconds hand. As the car passes the starting line, push the crown back in, re-starting it.
