Traveling Back in Time: Longines Launches Re-edition of Majetek Pilot’s Watch
Longines kicks off the new watch year with a jewel from its past. The Longines Pilot Majetek is a faithful re-edition of a model that took first to the skies in 1935. Although geared to the needs of professional aviators, this timepiece ultimately attracted a wider customer base looking for a reliable, precise, and easy-to-read wristwatch. It is distinguished by a cushion-shaped case and a triangular marker that is used to indicate the starting time.
It goes without saying that the time-honored Swiss brand that is famous for its authentic retro-style has updated the original with today’s top-notch achievements. From an aesthetic standpoint, the proportions of the 43mm diameter cushion shaped case have been adjusted, with the lugs more rounded.
As is de rigieur for a modern sports watch, the Longines Pilot Majetek is water resistant to 100 meters. While in the original timepiece the marker formed a unit with the bezel and the watch glass, in the re-edition this element is placed below the sapphire crystal. In line with the design code for this genre, the no-nonsense dial is deep black and features Arabic numerals, with the hour and minute hands all coated with Superluminova. The railroad track minutes and the subsidiary seconds are also a nod to early pilot’s watches.
