Zenith Introduces Colorful Defy Skyline with a Scaled-Down Case at LVMH Watch Week
For most enthusiasts, the fascination of mechanical wristwatches comes from perfection of the form. From the numerals and indices to the hands, indications, and virtually all parts ? fans and aficionados are captivated by the perfect balance of both aesthetics and performance. Such a harmonious appeal stems from precisely calculated proportions that are matched to one another in tiny fractions. While there was a time when mechanical wristwatches were presented in generous cases with diameters stretching far beyond 40mm, watch designs have been trending towards smaller case sizes in recent years, with even some sports and diver?s watches staying beneath that benchmark.
The latest examples of high-end manufacture watches trending towards smaller case sizes is Zenith’s Defy Skyline, now available with a diameter of 36mm. Presented at this year’s LVMH Watch Week in Singapore, the three-hand timepieces with color-coordinated date indication comes with three dial hues. The first is the same metallic deep blue distinguishing the regular 41mm version, while the other two feature pastel pink and green shades. They have a metallic base that is polished and then satin-brushed, with rays emanating from the applied Zenith five-pointed star at the top of the dial. The geometrical pattern consists of engraved four-pointed stars, which are a modern reimagining of the Zenith ?double Z? logo from the 1960s.
